profile
George Pajon Jr. is a guitar player of rare andexceptional ability. Most known for hiswriting and playing with the group Black EyedPeas (Interscope Records), a group that iscurrently riding high on the Billboard charts,he has in recent years been a big force inhelping to shape the sound of Hip Hopthrough his originality, creativity, and vision ina genre that is often lacking in original soundand deprived of outstanding musicianship. Heis a major part of one of the most exciting liveshows in the genre, where you are always sureto see a new show every night - complete withmusical and lyrical improvisation, which hashelped them win over audiences all over theworld.A guitar player, producer, and songwriterGeorge Pajon Jr. has shown that he has moreto offer the urban music world than theaverage guitar player, who, more often thannot, is simply called in to replay sampledparts. His incredible ability to play multiplegenres and make them fit into an urbancontext not only has made him sought after, but respected in a genre that is based more onproducers and slick videos, than caliber ofmusicianship. He co-wrote and played guitaron the Black Eyed Peas current top 10 hit,“Where is the Love” featuring JustinTimberlake, as well as several other tracks onthe 2003 Interscope Records release Elephunk.Radio audiences will get another sample of hiswriting on the follow-up single, “Shut Up”,which is set for a fall release, and televisionaudiences are currently getting a regular doseof George’s improv playing skills on the MTV/MTV2 series “My Definition” which features theband improvising in every episode along withsome of today’s hottest musical guestsincluding Pharrell Williams (Neptunes), TravisBarker (Blink 182) and Rahzel (The RootsCrew).Ask anyone who has the opportunity ofworking with him, and they will tell you that itis a near impossible task to find any guitarplayer in music, let alone Urban music, thathas the cross-genre experience andproficiency that George possesses. And thatmusical dexterity has never been moreapparent than in his current solo project “FriedPlantains”, which fuses the worlds of Jazz, HipHop, Blues, and Rock with his undeniableguitar skills. For the project, he drew on someof Jazz’s great players, such as Mike Clark(Herbie Hancock/Headhunters), and FredWesley (James Brown), as well as up-and-comers such as Robert Walter (20th Congress/Greyboy Allstars), to create an exciting tripback to “Groove” music that has rarely beenconquered since it’s last heyday in the 1970’s.George’s years of experience in the studio andon the road have led him into a buddingcareer writing and producing for such artistsas Terry Dexter (Aamp;M), Esthero (Reprise), MosDef (Rawkus Records), Beth Hirsch (K7), andmany others. He has recorded with producerssuch as Rhett Lawrence, Wade Robson, andRon Fair, and has had the opportunity to writewith, play, record, and tour with the likes ofJustin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, MacyGray, No Doubt, Blink 182, 311, The Roots,Wyclef Jean, Coldplay, Queens of the StoneAge, and countless other bands and artistscreating some of today’s hottest music.
